Announcement: there are other Annapurnas 🗻!

When Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal stood atop Annapurna I, they did more than just claim the first ascent of an 8000er — they marked the beginning of the golden age of Himalayan mountaineering ✨📌
Herzog famously ended "Annapurna: Premier 8000" with the phrase, "there are other Annapurnas."

That phrase took on new meaning for me in 2020, standing atop Pisang Peak, gazing at the vast Annapurna range. It was in that moment that the idea of The Other Annapurnas began to take shape.🤩

In 2025, to mark the 75th anniversary of the first ascent of Annapurna I, I am undertaking a special climbing project: The Other Annapurnas, attempting to climb as a start Annapurna IV.
This is my way of honoring the pioneers who paved the way for modern Himalayan exploration.🙏🫶

Herzog l'avait d'ailleurs annoncé au retour "Annapurna : Premier 8000" en terminant son annonce par "il y a d’autres Annapurnas."

Cette phrase a pris un nouveau sens pour moi en 2020, au sommet du Pisang Peak, contemplant la vaste chaîne de l’Annapurna. C’est à ce moment-là que l’idée de "The Other Annapurnas" a commencé à prendre forme🤩

En 2025, pour marquer le 75e anniversaire de la première ascension de l’Annapurna I, un projet d’ascension : The Other Annapurnas, en tentant de gravir comme point de départ l’Annapurna IV.

Today, I want to take a moment to celebrate all the incredible female adventurers who have paved the way in mountaineering and exploration. 🏔️

From Marie Paradis, the first woman to summit Mont Blanc in 1808 🏞️, to Junko Tabei, who made the first female ascent of Everest in 1975 🏔️.
From Fanny Bullock Workman, who not only set altitude records but also championed women's rights in 1912 📝💪, to @kristin.harila , who rewrote history by summiting all 14 peaks in just 91 days in 2023 🗻⏱️!

Mountains do not discriminate — but history has. Women in mountaineering have had to fight for recognition, sponsorship, and opportunities. Yet, every step taken by these pioneers has made the path a little easier for those who follow. 💫👣

To every woman pushing her limits — whether in the mountains, in sports, or in life, your strength inspires the world 🌟
Keep climbing, keep breaking barriers! 🔝🏔️

The summit is only halfway! 🏔️

Reaching the top is just one part of the journey — the real challenge often begins on the way down⬇️
The margin for error is razor-thin when exhaustion sets in after hours of summit push, and the safety of the tent below feels both close and impossibly far 😓

As I descended down from the summit of Cholatse 🇳🇵 (6440 m) in 2024, which is not a very high mountain in the Himalayas but is technically difficult, peaks like these require every step with precision
⚠️ A climber only truly succeeds when they return safely—because every summit push is only halfway there 🧗‍♂️

As a mountaineer, the sight of tents from a long arete high afar is soothing. There's home! 💙

"At 8,000m, the difference between success and failure is often just a few degrees of temperature, a shift in the wind, or a moment of hesitation."
Mountaineering is about balance between pushing forward and knowing when to turn back⚖️

🔙In 2018, I had to retreat from 130 meters short of the summit. It wasn't an easy decision to make. During the third attempt in 2019, we had to make a decision again!
On our summit push, we reached Camp 2, but high winds delayed the rope-fixing, forcing climbers to make difficult choices. While some remained at C2, we decided to move up to C3 and then C4, enduring two nights at extreme altitude before making our final push💥.
In the end, @dawasangay_ and I reached the summit😅💪.
But in the mountains, success is never guaranteed — it is a result of preparation, adaptation, and trust in the moment.

These images of this isolated and beautiful corner of the world, New Zealand, to wish you again with @dawasangay_ a Happy New Year 2025✨!

Our Mt Cook target has not been possible. Global warming has also a strong impact here and even in early Summer, the glacier to access the mountain is already too dangerous and cracked. Like the Alps and Mont Blanc, the good season shifts to Spring....
We reached Lendenfeld Peak summit, 3194m, from the West coast starting from Fox Glacier.

To end our 2024 journey, we went on this beautiful ridge of Mt Aspiring 3033m, named the Matterhorn of New Zealand 🗻.
Access to Collin Todd Hut in 2 big days of walking in a crasy scenery and bush. So beautiful 😍! Perfect conditions and summit reached on January 1st at 10:15 am, a great way to start 2025 !
Mt Aspiring will be my Oceania summit for «my Seven Summits»!

Having to get out of the tent at night to pee is a gift for the eyes 🤩. A way of finding the positive in situations!😁

What a trip!
In the plane taking me back to Paris, exceptionally on a daytime flight, I didn't sleep, and just went through and enjoyed the 1000+ photos of our trip 😍
What a trip! It really is a special atmosphere.
This immersion for days in this Himalayan immensity is what I love, and when we manage to complete our itinerary with a summit like Cholatse, we can say that we were right to come👌 !
Lotta joined us in Dragnag and together we went the base camp⛺️.
When we reached the foot of Cholatse, I knew why I'd come back. This face and this ridge are truly sublime🩵😍.
It's a varied and aesthetic route, and not that easy at all!
It's beautiful with a crazy view, on one side Gokyo, its lakes and Cho Oyu in the background and on the other I'll just mention Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Ama Dablam... That says it all🗻!

What a journey this pass… More than a trekking it is pure moutaineering 😅!

After the beautiful Rolwaling Valley, we have been alone for the following days.
Thso Rolpa Lake, Trakarding Glacier, climbing to high camp and reaching Tesi Lapcha pass 5750 m have been a beautiful and demanding journey.

Coming down to Thame and discovering the village after the recent floading brings you back to reality 🩵🙏
Big thank you to our brave porters. They are so strong and always smiling! Nima, Lakpa, Geljen and Pemba, merci 🙏

My lucky day in the fall in the Himalayas is October 1st 🍀

🗻After 4 attempts, it was on this day that I successfully reached the summit of Dhaulagiri, 8167m, in 2021, and after 2 attempts, I checked off Manaslu, 8163m, in 2022.

😅Dhaulagiri is the summit I have returned to the most. For these two mountains, it’s a total of 6 expeditions, which perfectly illustrates the resilience, dedication, and perseverance required for these major ascents. This is a theme I regularly address in my talks.

🌄The two photos illustrate the last few meters separating us from the summit. Slow and freezing progress at sunrise, but with hope for success!
